Bryan was born and educated through high school in England. He was fortunate that, in addition to academic subjects, he was able to take woodwork and metal shop. He moved to the United States where he continued his education, completing a graduate degree in Oceanography. For a while he worked as an environmental consultant while working on an MBA in the Boston area. Life took one of its interesting turns and he ended up, eventually, as a bank vice-president in southern New Hampshire. At 45 he decided banking was not for him, and went back to school to become a certified high school science teacher. He has traveled to Japan on a Fulbright Teacher exchange for Education for Sustainable Development. He is a Siemens Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fellow. He has studied materials (metals, ceramics, plastics and composites) at the ASM materials camp and art at Sharon Art Center and Keene State College. He taught science and technology at the high school level for twenty years, and ran a Maker Club for young inventors. Now retired from teaching when not in his workshop making pens, or working on making the world a better place, he hikes with Teddy, his Labradoodle, plays the Irish button box, or putts around in his reproduction 1957 Lotus Seven.
